Fevad (the French e-commerce and distance selling federation) has just published a review of e-commerce in France, which now exceeds 175 billion euros a year
175.3 billion euros to be precise: this is the (record) turnover achieved by e-commerce in France according to the latest study published by the Federation of E-commerce and Distance Selling, which attributes this rebound (+9.6% compared to 2023) mainly to the ‘clear recovery in transactions’ and the ‘initial effects of the slowdown in inflation’.
In detail:
- Product sales increased by 6%, reaching 66.9 billion euros, which is ‘a level equivalent to that of 2021’, notes Fevad.
- The sale of services increased by 12% in one year, with 108.4 billion euros in sales.
- The average basket remains stable (68 euros), which FEVAD justifies by ‘the slowdown in inflation’ but also ‘the diversification of low-priced offers’,
- The number of internet transactions jumped to 2.6 billion (+10% in one year).
‘On average, each online shopper made more than one online purchase per week, bringing the total annual expenditure on products and services to 4,216 euros. With a more mature market and a diversified offering, e-commerce continues to be structured around innovative brands and new modes of consumption,’ concludes Fevad.
